Mission La Purísima Concepción de María Santísima
WHO: Mission La Purisima was founded by Father Fermin Lasuen.
WHAT: The mission was named after the immaculate conception of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary and nicknamed “The Linear Mission”.
WHERE: The mission is located at 2295 Purisima Road, Lompoc, California.
WHEN: The mission was founded on December 8, 1787. It was the eleventh of California’s twenty-one missions.
WHY: It was founded for the continued religious conversion of the indigenous peoples. It also provided a focus for Spanish settlement in the area.
HOW: The mission was built by the labor of the Chumash native tribe of the area; under the design and the direction of the priests.
