Mission San Juan Bautista
WHO: Mission San Juan Bautista was founded by Father Fermin Lasuen of the Franciscan order.
WHAT: The mission was named after Saint John the Baptist. The nickname of the mission is the “Music Mission”.
WHERE: The mission is located at 406 2nd Street, San Juan Bautista, California. The city of San Juan Bautista was named after the mission.
WHEN: Mission San Juan Bautista was built in 1797. It was the fifteenth of California’s twenty-one missions.
WHY: It was founded for the continued religious conversion of the indigenous tribe of Native American peoples. It also provided a focus for Spanish settlement in the area.
