VENUS

WHO: The planet ‘Venus’ is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty.

WHAT: It is one of the terrestrial planets of the Sun.

WHERE: It is the 2nd planet orbiting the Sun, every 224 days

WHEN : Venus has been observed and recognized as a planet since ancient times.

HOW: Mankind has known about Venus from visual and radar observations from Earth;
First visited by USSR spacecraft ‘Venera’ in 1961 and by US spacecraft ‘Mariner 2’ in 1962

Interesting Fact: It is the brightest object in the night sky, known as both the
‘morning star’ and the ‘evening star’. It has been known in all
cultures and civilizations all around the world.
